Narrative tenses practice - sentence completion and pairwork

Instructions

This sheet is intended to help / check students understanding of narrative tenses (past perfect and past continuous).

(1) Students work alone to complete the sentences so that they are true for them.

(2) They can do the group activity at the bottom of the sheet. In order to find the answer to the questions, each student should read his/her appropriate sentence aloud.

Alternatively, they can work in pairs and read their sentences to their partners and ask for their partner's response.

In this case, it's better that they simply ask 'What about you?' than try to form a sentence on the basis of the statement as this may not be natural. It's also better that they read their sentences at random so the listening partner has to listen carefully.
