Past conditionals - Chance discoveries and inventions

Instructions

Give out one set of pictures per group. (Two sets are included on one page to save paper.) Students try to guess what the invention or discovery is and how it might have happened by chance.

Give out one text per student and allow them 5 minutes to read and make notes.
Remove the text. Students tell each other about their invention or discovery and they complete the three third conditional sentence prompts on the picture sheet.
