British and American English - matching dominoes

Intermediate B1-B2
20 mins
Groups of 3-4

Worksheet description

Twelve matching dominoes with light-hearted two-line dialogues between an American and British speaker. 'I'll put my things in
the trunk.' 'The what? It's a car, not an elephant. Oh! You mean the boot!'

The word pairs are: petrol-gas, chips-crisps, garbage-rubbish, subway-Underground / Tube, yard-garden, pants-trousers, fall-autumn, sidewalk-pavement, trunk-boot, line-queue, faucet-tap, closet-wardrobe

Instructions

Cut up the dominoes and divide equally among students. One student lays a domino at random to start the activity.

Students must then add the previous or next domino to continue the chain, matching the response with the original statement or question.

It is important that they do this one domino at a time; trying to match all the dominoes at once tends to result in chaos.
